SEWARD — On May 13, the Alaska Vocational Technical Center (AVTEC) celebrated its Spring 2025 graduating class in a ceremony held at the AVTEC Student Services Center gymnasium.

Over 350 guests gathered to celebrate the accomplishments of 84 graduates. The ceremony featured a speech by Catherine Muñoz, Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development.

"In my job I often travel, and wherever I go, AVTEC is recognized for its excellence around the state, and around the country. ... AVTEC graduates are also recognized for your skills, for your high demand skills that are needed throughout our state, and our economy," said Commissioner Muñoz.

AVTEC Director, Dr. Cory Ortiz, recognized graduates' determination in his address:

"To our graduates: this is your moment. You've put in the time, the effort, the focus, to complete rigorous, hands-on training. You've built essential skills, formed strong connections, and shown that you're ready to take on the next step."

Employment prospects are strong for AVTEC graduates, with well over half of the new alumni having secured employment in training-related positions prior to graduation.

Graduates completed training in nine technical programs: Business and Office Technology, Construction Technology, Culinary Arts, Diesel/Heavy Equipment Technologies, Industrial Electricity, Industrial Machine and Maintenance, Industrial Welding, Information Technology, and Plumbing and Heating. Several graduates were recognized for perfect attendance.

AVTEC is an accredited postsecondary vocational training center operated by the State of Alaska as a Division of the Department of Labor and Workforce Development.
