Mechanical Inspection Plumbing And Electrical
Inspections
State inspectors perform electrical and plumbing inspections of work performed on new construction and repairs or alterations to existing structures. Electrical Inspectors inspect new and altered electrical systems on all commercial structures and on dwellings of three-plex and above.
Plumbing Inspectors conduct inspections of work performed on new and altered plumbing, gas, and fuel piping installations in communities of 2,500 and above.
Inspections ensure that appropriate code work is performed by appropriately-licensed workers and that contractor and administrator licensing is properly maintained by the company performing the work.
Certificates of Fitness
The section verifies training, experience, and registration requirements for applicants, conducts testing, and issues Certificates of Fitness in both the plumbing and electrical trades for Alaska.
Much of the installation and modification of electrical or plumbing systems is subject to the minimum standards set out in In the Plumbing Code (AS 18.60.705), Electrical Safety (AS 18.60.580), and High Voltage Lines (AS 18.60.670) statutes. With limited exceptions, to perform work subject to these standards a Certificate of Fitness is required.
For specific information about obtaining or renewing a Certificate of Fitness, please refer to the appropriate application form on our Forms and Publications page.
