License/Exam Fees:
  • Architect by ARE exam $175 ($50 nonrefundable application fee, $125 registration fee)
  • Architect by Comity $275 ($50 nonrefundable application fee, $100 review fee, $125 registration fee)
  • Biennial renewal fee $125 - 24 professional development hours of continuing education in Health, Safety and Welfare is required for renewal.

Licensing Requirements:

Applicants must have graduated from an approved school of architecture and have combined education and work experience as outlined by the National Council of Architectural Registration Board (NCARB). Completion of an Intern Development Program and passing of an arctic engineering course are also required. Upon acceptance by the Alaska Board, authorization to test for the Architect Registration Examination will be received from NCARB. All exam fees and testing are through NCARB.

New requirement for 12/31/09 renewal includes 24 hours of continuing education. All hours must be in health, safety & welfare. For further information go to www.commerce.alaska.gov/occ/pael.cfm.
