$200,000 Available For Peer Support For Dislocated Workers

Dec. 13, 2001
No. 01-94

Grants available through AK Workforce Investment Office>

The Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development's Workforce Investment Office is soliciting grant applications to provide financial assistance for one or more Peer Support projects in Alaska.

Since 1996, the Peer Support model has evolved and developed. Within Alaska it has been applied to a variety of dislocations including layoffs in industries such as timber, oil and gas, retail, government, and commercial fishing. Peers help dislocated workers get information and available services, as well as advocate on their behalf by acting as a liaison with agency and community professionals. In some cases, they help dislocated workers return to gainful employment.

Those eligible to apply for these grants include any non-profit or for-profit organization, business or government agency licensed or recognized to conduct business within Alaska with the capacity to meet requirements within this solicitation.

The issuing office must receive applications no later than 5PM Alaska Standard Time on Monday, January 28, 2002. Copies of the complete grant application are available by contacting Janet Thompson at (907) 269-4680 or by Fax at (907) 269-4661, at the Alaska Workforce Investment Office, Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Employment Security Division, 3301 Eagle Street, Suite 106, Anchorage, 99503-4188. The Solicitation of Interest is also available online through the State of Alaska
