State of Alaska Disability Rights Policies
The State of Alaska Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Task Force sets policy for disability issues, in coordination with other statewide entities. Departmental ADA coordinators may assist with further policy development and review within their departments. They will also facilitate policy development at the statewide level, and forward requests to the Task Force from the public and state employees. The following policies have thus far been adopted by the ADA Coordinator’s Office via the Task Force:
State Notice and Communication Policy
Adopted in 1994, this policy describes the use of ADA notification of grievance procedures, and ongoing communication, such as the tagline: “Auxiliary aids and services are available upon request to individuals with disabilities.”
Accessible Parking Policy
Indicates how the ADA qualifies accessible parking, and how the state provides it. Also addresses differences in accessibility for persons using placards, using workplace modifications, and requesting reasonable accommodation.
Service Animal Policy
This policy details the use of service animals for persons with disabilities in public facilities. It provides a standard for ensuring fair and safe use of service animals.
